a sense of place
Suzanne and Malcolm met as students at Liverpool College of Art. Their work as artists reflects their daily preoccupation with landscape and natural history. Sharing a love of wild and remote places visits are made to the north and west of the British Isles regularly. Suzanne worked for a while with field naturalists and land managers in the Nature Conservancy Council, gaining an insight into the rapid changes which have affected the natural environment. Malcolm is a keen hill walker and wildlife recorder.
Primarily a painter, Suzanne depicts remote places and their surviving vernacular buildings. Suzanne's work also includes textiles based on traditional hand-knitting and recycled fabrics, and occasional artists' books. Malcolm trained in print-making and his series of lino-cuts and etchings are made in short runs, individually hand-coloured.
